9 months + 40 days

A one day workshop to prepare for your postpartum time. We will hold embodiment, physiology and instinct at the heart of shaping the first 40 days after your baby is born.

Come and prepare for an embodied and instinct LED postpartum. JOIN ME TO prepare WELL for the first forty days after birth - THE IRRETRIEVABLE TIME THAT IS your fourth trimester.

This one day, in person workshop will provide you with a rich understanding of the significance of embodiment in relation to pregnancy and postpartum. Together we will look at how we can prepare thoroughly for the beginning to motherhood and parenthood. The course is underpinned by embodied practices (exploring movement, breath, & felt-sense awareness (feeling)) that support a movement towards an increased sense of security and safety in addition to supporting you towards your autonomy as you move through pregnancy, birth and into the postpartum time.

JOIN ME FOR THE DAY IN MY warm and cozy STUDIO TO MAP A PLAN FOR POSTPARTUM - FUTURE WORKSHOP DATES TBC.

Why in an embodied way?

The body gives us wonderful information about how we respond to the environment around us. This course is an opportunity to tune in to your inner cues so that you can establish your boundaries and identify your wishes with more clarity and confidence for pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

Our wiring to belong is laid down from the time we were in the womb. Shaped by the moments, hours, days, and months following birth when our primary care givers attune to our calls for comfort and nourishment. Before we can speak, our body is forming a fundamental understanding of relationship and attachment.

How we engage with and feel belonging later in life is intricately related to the the early map of belonging that we first got to know, how we first made sense of being seen. When we bring a baby into the world, we are being guided by this map.

Accessing what we are feeling in our body gives us uncensored understanding of our authentic experience and scope therefore to respond to it.

what is Sitting the month?

In Chinese culture the first month to forty days after birth is significant. The time is referred to as ‘confinement’ or ‘sitting the month’. The phrase is s a clear ear marking of the post partum time and the change in pace required therein. It seen as a time for recovery, replenishment, building resources and sustenance. It is also a window of opportunity to reset existing patterns in the body.

The 9 months and 40 days course left participants feeling…

‘cradled and supported, empowered, informed, nurtured, sense of community and like-mindedness, prepared, equipped, inspired, confident’

‘Empowered, more knowledgeable and confident about what I want and don't want in the post-partum time, overall better equipped to be tapped into my body and able to regulate myself. I found this a really supportive group of people, and am so glad I signed up for the course!’

COURSE CONTENT

We will cover...

  • What feels good, right and instinctive to you - exploring our instinctive knowing through body centered practices

  • Parenthood as a rite of passage

  • The golden hour - looking the first hour after birth through different lenses

  • What happens after pregnancy from a hormonal perspective - using this to guide self care in the PP time

‘What a wonderful course! I have come away feeling much calmer, clearer and more informed about what I want from the post-partum time. I especially valued learning about the role of our hormones & nervous system, and how to listen to and support our bodies in pregnancy & post-birth. Emily has so much valuable and fascinating information to share, and imparts that in a way that is sensitive and empowering. I also learned a lot from the other women on the course, it was a really lovely intimate space of learning, sharing and support (even over zoom!). Thank you.’ - Anonymous (2021)

‘This course felt like truly women centred care like I haven’t experienced elsewhere. I feel more sure of what I want in labour and how I want to approach the fourth trimester. As a first time mum this kind of clarity and confidence is so valuable and just the opportunity to discuss this in a safe focussed space was wonderful.’ - Catherine

‘EMPOWERED! - Connected to others also going through pregnancy in lockdown - Seen and heard as a new mother by myself and others - Resilient - More confident and knowledgeable about my rights and choices during childbirth - Interested and increased confidence in the option of a home birth - Excited about creating space in my week to research, read and make art in relation to preparing for motherhood - Connected to similar communities and initiatives like this in Oxford - Excited about my journey into motherhood - Grounded in my body and my pregnancy' - Rachel

'The Fourth Trimester Workshop is THE best gift you will ever ever give yourself as a mum to be. As I am writing this, i’m imagining what my pregnancy and first 2 weeks would have been like if I hadn’t been supported by Emily. My experience of becoming a mum the second time around has been completely transformed by my decision to be guided by Emily's knowledge of the fourth trimester and the treasure chest of facts, advice, tips, and sumptuous inspiration for how to live life post partum that goes against everything I had previously learned from western society. Thank you so deeply Emily, for being such a pioneer of this work over in the U.K. What you are offering to women is a sacred awakening and a returning to our instincts as women to mother and be mothered.' - Emmy
